Comic: Constructed with Uncare

This is Pi Day #059

At the risk of diving too deeply into the meta-story behind this particular comic, I’ll reveal that for about a year now the Girl and I have been having an ongoing argument about power tools. To be exact, she manifested the idea inside her head that it would be a good idea to buy some lumber and build a bed for her doll.

The plan, which I had mixed emotions about, involved about twenty bucks worth of lumber and carpentry skills that I most certainly do not possess.

A big part of my #dadlife has been trying to encourage the Kid to take on projects bigger than herself, tackle eclectic hobbies, explore skill-building crafts, and unravel the complexities of the world… but it was always at the least convenient, most “why now?!” moments when she would suddenly pronounce that “we need to go to the hardware store so we can buy some lumber…”

I’ve been trying to jumble that experience into a comic for the better part of six months, and finally it has bubbled to the surface as this simple gag if only because at the heart of her argument has always lay that one caveat: if you’re not going to help, dad, I’m old enough to do it myself thankyouverymuch!
