This is Pi Day #022

The key to a good selfie is to just stay focused and don’t be negative.

To be fair, I think the Girl is going through a phase when she is LESS likely than me to post a bad photo of herself online. But in reality, it’s become clear that she has two sets of friends: those who social and those who don’t.

The day is inevitably coming when she doesn’t just ask, she begs for permission to sign up for an insta-snap-twit-book-latest-fad account. I can still hide behind the “you gotta be 13” user agreement rules for a while, but then again: so many friends who social!

C’mon fellow parents.

Hey! Me too! What a coincidence.

This is Pi Day is an independent web comic about fatherhood, running, video games, science, art, independence, integrity, imagination and just generally ... family adventure. It is created, written, illustrated, and promoted by Brad Salomons from a quiet suburb of a remote Canadian city called Edmonton, Alberta.

Looking for more pi? We regularly celebrate at the great circle of math, science and technology culture. This is Pi Day has been calculated as the product of one geeky dad, one curious kid, and an irrational volume of corny dad jokes.

New full strips are published on Saturday mornings (and shorts, appearing randomly whenever I draw them). This is Pi Day will always be free to read on this site, but if you enjoy it please help me out by sharing the link on social media or supporting in other ways.

Of course, these students are so bright the teachers needed to wear sunglasses.

Back to school.

Back. To. School.

We`re back, and I`m personally finding as the years creep onward my role in that scenario is changing from in-depth and fully-engaged dad to … well…. unpaid taxi driver.

I saw this yesterday: I was driving the kid to school, she mostly ignoring me from the back seat, and as we drove we passed a family standing a the bus stop. The big cheezewagon had just pulled to the curb and both the dad and the mom had cameras in hand as their little (I`m assuming) kindie-gartner clambered aboard. A five second drive-by as we went along our just-another-day-way told me that this kid`s morning was turning into a soon-to-be Facebook documentary.
